School Improvement Plans and Initiatives

The School Learning Plans will continue to focus on building capacity with Literacy and Math Instruction. We continue to use a committee approach to set professional learning goals for all staff, and collect data to plan and track our initiatives. Our Professional Development work (ie: Enhancing student learning through the use of descriptive feedback and student self-assessment) will focus giving teachers strategies on how to improve student achievement in both literacy and math. Staff members will continue to use moderation exercises within grade teams, to designing respectful and challenging tasks to engage all learners and to increase their achievement. School Council continues to support instruction through both the purchase of resources and the coordination of engaging activities for our parent community. Communication and correspondence between home and school will continue to be an important initiative at W.O Mitchell. School newsletters are sent home monthly through the School Connects email system and posted on the school website. A proactive approach to behaviour is taken by setting clear expectations for positive behaviour through assemblies and class visits at the beginning of the school year.
