Reduced Litter Lunches

WOM School Council is promoting reducing litter in lunches. The initiative hopes to raise awareness on reducing the amount of litter packed in school lunches.

Did you know the average student’s lunch generates a total of 30KG of waste per school year?

Promoting reduced litter lunches helps save our school, community and environment now and in future years. We encourage parents, and students to think about the way they prepare and package school lunches.

We encourage all WOM families to continue re-thinking the way they prepare lunches. Here are some helpful tips on how you can prepare a reduced litter lunch:

  1. Pack lunches in a reusable lunch bag or box
  2. Use reusable containers for packing food (no plastic wrap, foil, plastic bags or pre packaged food)
  3. Use reusable drink bottles or a thermos.
  4. Use non disposable cutlery and napkins

More hints and tips are available on our Reduced Litter Flyer.

Let’s all help make a difference to our school community and the environment by reducing the amount of litter we pack in our lunches.
